This research systematizes the experience of the Plan Padrino (“Godparent Plan”), a peer-mentoring pedagogical strategy implemented in the multigrade classrooms El Suan and Guasimal at the IER La Carlota, in Puerto Berrío, Antioquia. The objective is to document and analyze the influence of this strategy on students’ academic performance and learning processes. Methodologically, a qualitative, participatory, and interpretative approach was used, following three stages: definition of the experience (Plan Padrino), recovery of the lived experience (through document analysis, teacher journals, and informal interviews with key actors from 2019 to 2023), and finally, reflection, analysis, and dissemination of results. The Plan Padrino, aligned with the pedagogy of territory (Mejía) and the thought of Freire and Morin, emerges as an innovative solution for rural education, promoting equity in contexts of scarcity. Peer mentoring (fifth grade supporting first grade) strengthens both basic academic competencies (reading and writing) and integral development. The results aim to make this pedagogical practice visible, recognize the value of accompaniment, and propose the social appropriation of the initiative to ensure its sustainability and contribute to improved coexistence and educational quality in multigrade classrooms, generating knowledge from rural realities.
