Resumen
The study seeks to understand the experience of the meaning of life and emotions in the psychological well-being of the elderly, using a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological-hermeneutic and narrative approach, through 3 focus groups in which 33 elderly people participated, 25 in a condition of abandonment and 8 with the support of their families. The results indicate that older adults can give meaning to their lives, even in difficult situations, contributing to their psychological well-being. Emotions such as love, tranquillity, peace, joy and harmony are associated with well-being, while lack of meaning in life is related to frustration, fear, sadness, loneliness and anger, especially in those in a situation of abandonment. The meaning of life in these people is based on faith in God, family, physical health, satisfaction of basic needs, participation in social and creative activities.
